Wonder: Are Pennies lucky?

This week we are WONDERing if pennies are really lucky. We thought this would be a great topic to explore because we have learned that Abe Lincoln is on the penny, we are discussing matter and different materials, we recently finished our unit on shapes and the penny is a circle, and next week we are diving into economics with our Goods/Services and Needs/Wants unit.

What happens if you don't brush your teeth?

February is Dental Health awareness month. This week, we are researching what happens if you don't brush your teeth, but we are going a step further! Sometimes it can be a chore to get our young ones to brush their teeth. We are taking a trip back in time to see the FIRST toothbrushes invented. You will be shocked.... and a little grossed out!

Valentine's Party

I hope you all had a fantastic snowcation! I wanted to inform you that we will not be able to make up the Valentines party, but the students will be able to distribute their  cards/gift to their friends. We will have a special snack on Monday and the remaining funds will go in our Friday Ice Cream account! Thanks for understanding and I look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Our Daily 5 Workshop Today

Today I noticed a lot of great work during our Daily 5 time. Here are a few students sharing their amazing work.

My guided reading group are showing their completed _at Letter Ladder.

Brooks, Colten, and Christian used their letter sounds to write words and used spacing between words. Great job, boys! 

Thank you, Mrs. Mac's first grade class, for sharing their Water project with us! We learned so much! 

George Washington's Teeth

Did you know George Washington had bad teeth? He had rotten teeth and lost them in war, at dinner, and even while trying to disguise his bad smile. We read the book, George Washington's Teeth and created a chart of details describing his teeth from the text.

 

Next, we used the details from the text to create our very own George portraits.

 

Tomorrow we will start writing a silly informational piece on George Washington's teeth. Check back with us soon to see the finished product!
